The Red Brick Basilica: A Tolosa Mystery

Remember that first book? The Red Brick Cellars? Well, I wrote a sequel, and quite some time ago at that. Then I stuck it in a virtual drawer and forgot about it.

Now I’m bringing it back out and it’s live on all the platforms today!

The Red Brick BasilicaThe Red Brick Basilica

Book 2 of the Tolosa Mysteries

Louis Saint-Blancat loves every aspect of Toulouse – the delicious food, the temperate climate, the laidback people. And the history! Every building and square guards bits of Toulouse’s past, from well-known events to morsels only revealed to the curious like Louis.

Especially the morbidly fascinating stories catch Louis’s interest in ways he can’t explain.

When someone slaughters a Catholic priest on the steps of the city’s largest mosque, reenacting the story of Saint Sernin’s death from the year 250 A.D., Louis fears Toulouse is in for an upheaval of disastrous proportions.

In this second installment of The Tolosa Mysteries, Louis must wade through political minefields and deal with an increasingly split population while searching for the culprit – and helping his beloved city stay unified.

Just Desserts: A Ghost Detective Short Story

Finally, I’ve published the first of my Ghost Detective stories. I’ve been working with these characters for two years, so I’m really happy to finally share it with you.

This is just the first of many Ghost Detective short stories. You’ll be able to follow Robert and Clothilde for some time into the future! Most of the stories will first be published in Pulphouse Magazine, before becoming available here.

This first story, Just Desserts, was in issue #9 of Pulphouse, happily sitting alongside lots of awesome stories.

A Ghost Detective Short Story

Book 1

The screams reverberate through our cemetery as soon as the casket exits the church, with its large group of mourners in tow.

A new arrival.

Not everyone graciously comes to terms with suddenly dying and becoming a ghost. Hardly any of us, actually.

Especially when the person who killed us still walks free.

Hidden Horrors: A Mystery Short Story

When I started writing this story, I knew – sort of – where I wanted it to go. A woman is meditating and then it takes her somewhere else. It was going to be fantasy, probably, something funny.

Yeah, no, not so much.

The story went somewhere else and I did nothing but follow along for the ride. This story’s a doozy. Creeped myself out, honestly.

Hidden Horrors

Sometimes our mind lets go of memories because it considers them insignificant.

Sometimes it buries them deep, to protect us.

But at some point, we’re ready to face our greatest fears, and the memories resurface.

Like Mother Like Daughter: A Mystery Short Story

Here’s a short story I wrote some time ago, when a beautiful kayak trip in Norway apparently inspired yet another murder mystery.

Like Mother Like DaughterLike Mother Like Daughter

Siri returns to her childhood summer house after her mother is found dead in a creek after a solo kayak trip.

What was meant to be a simple closing up of the
house turns into an investigation into whatever her mother had been up to before she died.

Siri may take a kayak trip of her own.

Two’s Company: A Mystery Short Story

Two's Company

This short story has actually been out a while but it’s possible I forgot to announce it here on the website… So, anyway. Another mystery short story set in Norway, in one of those remote places that I like so much.

Two's CompanyTwo’s Company

Officer Belamy travels to a tiny island on the Norwegian coast to help clear up the murder of a French citizen.

The island offers an awful boat ride, tall, blond Norwegian police officers, and a talkative lady desperate for company.

And silence. Lots of silence.

Gertrude and the Trojan Horse: A Geriatric Short Story

I have no idea how this story popped into my head, but once I got going, I certainly had fun with it – as did Gertrude!

I guess it’s a Mystery, since there is a crime and the search for justice. But mostly…it’s an old lady using new technology to troll people she doesn’t like.

Gertrude and the Trojan HorseGertrude and the Trojan Horse

Gertrude has a lifetime of experience in trolling the trolls.

Internet presents an infinite number of tools, only a click away. Especially with her grand-daughter’s help.

Today’s target: a young man praying on the elderly because of their lack of computer smarts.

First Impressions: A Young Adult Mystery Short Story

Here comes yet another short story. This one is a Young Adult story, but that shouldn’t stop the not-so-young adults from reading it!

I wrote the story in September, when the kids went back to school. It’s possible that the teacher’s name is weirdly similar to my daughter’s teacher – but the similarities stops there!

Anyway…let me know what you think!

First Impressions

Being the new girl in school is never fun.

I’m used to it, though. Spotting potential new friends, identifying the cliques to avoid, figuring out the school’s layout… Been there, done that.

Being accused of murder before the first class even starts? That’s new.

Out of Sight: A Mystery Short Story

Blog Post Out of Sight

The next short story is out! Inspired by householding tasks, of all things…

Out of SightOut of Sight

A Mystery Short Story

If Christine doesn’t leave the vacuum cleaner out after having vacuumed, her husband won’t realize she did the work.

If there’s no proof, he’ll be completely blind to any householding tasks she’s done.

Among other things.

New Mystery Short Story Available

As promised, I continue publishing last year’s short stories. This one is Mystery (like a majority of my stories) and it’s quite funny. At least it was fun to write!

I usually spend two or three weeks in Norway every summer, and most years we eat at least a meal or two of crabs. Seems like last year, this was a source of inspiration!

CrittersCritters

Some crimes are more interesting than others.

Some killers are more surprising than others.

Today’s murderer appears to be a crab.
